January RS Presidency Message
In President Dieter F. Uchtdorf's October
2012 General Conference talk "Of Regrets and Resolutions", he warns
us of getting too busy. He says,
"We often wear our busyness as a badge of honor, as though being busy, by
itself, were an accomplishment or sign of a superior life." He goes on to say he can't imagine our
Savior, during his short time of life, "bustling between meetings or
multitasking to get a list of urgent things accomplished." He continues, "Instead I see the
compassionate and caring Son of God purposefully living each day. When He interacted with those around Him,
they felt important and loved. He knew
the infinite value of the people He met.
He blessed them, ministered to them.
He lifted them up, healed them.
He gave them the precious gift of His time."
As the New Year begins, it is so easy to
busy ourselves with all the things we feel we NEED to get done or want to
improve. It's true this can be a worthy
endeavor, but we must be careful to prioritize what's most important. If we follow the Savior's perfect example, we
will remember to fill our time with the things that matter most. President Uchtdorf suggests we make the
following resolutions:
- Resolve to spend more time with those we love.
- Resolve to strive more earnestly
to become the person God wants us to be.- Resolve to find happiness, regardless of our circumstances
True happiness comes from following Jesus
Christ. May we live each day with
purpose and resolve to be more like Him in the New Year.
